In November of 2012 I started my first 5k. I totally underestimated how difficult it would be and struggled to even make it through the first mile. When I finally made it across the finish line, almost an hour later, I promised myself I would make changes to get healthier and stronger. I started by registering for at least one 5k a month for a full year and worked my way up from there eventually completing multiple marathons and triathlons.
It was never my intent to be a certain size or reach a certain weight, but along the way I've lost about 50lbs (occasionally fluctuating and gaining some of that back when I'm in the off season). I didn't set out to lose anything, only to find the person I was meant to be. I wanted to be the best possible version of myself. On the bucket list this year is to take on my first half ironman and eventually work my way up to a full ironman.
Aside from my fitness endeavors, I love spending time in the kitchen tinkering and coming up with new recipes. I'm also an avid craft beer drinker and have been known to dabble in a few spirits from time to time. I'm a huge Star Wars fan and indulge in several other nerd interests. Occasionally I freelance as a special effects makeup artist and if I'm not partaking in any of the aforementioned activities I'm spending my free time volunteering at a local museum or for the Make A Wish Foundation.
