Follow the Lita

If you've browsed through any fitness pages on instagram I'm sure you've stumbled across Lita Lewis (@litalewis & @followthelita).  For someone like myself who isn't the "typical" picture of fitness everything she says really resonates with me.  She's so inspiring to women because she shows us that you don't have to be skinny to be fit, you can build your own ideal and own your strong.  It's perfectly fine to have thick legs and be healthy.  Which after seeing hers, you'll wish you did.  Not all of our bodies are built alike and for some a super lean physique isn't where you're happiest.  It's all about finding the balance that works for you and I love that.  Fitness and health should be about YOU, your goals, your journey, your happiness.

Recently I had the opportunity and blessing to not only meet one of my fitness idols, but also work out with her.  She came to Chicago and offered a boot camp style class at Lacuna Fitness which is a training facility dedicated to helping you train like an athlete (and really makes you feel like a seasoned pro prepping for the upcoming season).  So here's a breakdown of my experience...

Facility: this place is seriously phenomenal.  It doesn't have that whole pretentious "bro" vibe you often get when there are a bunch of dudes lifting heavy.  Don't get me wrong, there are some seriously swole folks, lifting things I couldn't even dream of doing, but it's a positive environment and they're all just trying to help each other achieve greatness.  You see all levels of fitness and that's a beautiful thing.  I wish I would've had some more time that morning to chat with a few of the trainers but I was in a rush to get to the museum afterwards.  Check them out though, I'm sure you'll find a trainer you vibe with who can help you crush that PR, tear down a plateau or any other goal you may have.

Class:  goooood Lord, Lita is no joke folks!  She worked us HARD for all 60 of those minutes.  We literally did.not.stop.moving the entire time.  I definitely felt like I got my moneys worth that morning.  We warmed up with a quick run through the alley, then headed back in to do jumping jacks while we waited for the rest of the pack to join us.  We did a mix of HIIT, football style drills and even some partner exercises.  My body reached a level of sweatyness I previously didn't know was possible.  For reals, body was soaked and I loved every second of it.  She pushed us to reach farther, dig deeper and most importantly never give up.  It was the happiest torture I've ever subjected myself to.  I can't wait to do it again, so hopefully she'll be back soon.  Her energy is infections and ignites a fire inside you that won't burn out. That class was more than just inspiration, it was motivation to keep kicking ass.  Time to get stronger!
oh just chillin with Lita, no big deal
